CATS is Still Amazing, May 09, 2011
|
reviewer: Glenn from San Francisco
|
| CATS is perhaps one of the best musicals ever. The music is beautiful, and the dancing is amazing. If you like the most acrobatic and dazzling dance, you'll love CATS. You'll see back flips, mid air somersaults, ballet spins, leaps, tap dancing, and on and on. The dancing never stops. This is really an operetta because it's all songs and dance. Plot? No, but who needs that when you have over two hours of spectacular music. Of cousre, Andrew Lloyd Weber certainly knows how to milk a melody. And you'll hear the same melodies over and over basically until you fall in love with them all. Jellicle Cats, the first of the show is great. Magical Mephistopheles is still my favorite. And of course, Memories heard three times was sung superbly. Yes, CATS is not to be missed. GREAT SHOW! |

Dissapointed, Feb 18, 2012

| This is the first time we have seen Cats! And while we were
excited going into the show, we left very dissapionted.
While there were two or three really amazing and upbeat
songs lasting 10 mins they were quickly followed by 20
mins of slow moving dry songs, I had a hard time staying
awake. I could not understand any of the words, and the
dancing was mediocre at best. I am not a professional,
however a very avid show goer. The people behind us left
before act 2, and three others to the left of us stood up and
walked out in the middle of act 2, not to mention a lot of
people were falling asleep around us. As far as taking your
children, it was a clean show and some parts were fun for
them, but the ones we had directly by us talked the whole
time, and did not seem interested. We sat in the 3rd row of
the grand tier center and our seats were great, only thing
we could not see is when the cats were in the audience
which was fine. Overall we will not go back, it was a one
time deal for us. |

Magnificent!, Feb 24, 2012
|
reviewer: Rebekah Goodyear from Edmonton, Alberta
|
| This is my first time seeing my favourite musical live here at the Jubilee Auditorium in Edmonton, and it was magnificent! The dancers - especially Mr Mistoffelees, Victoria and Cassandra - were extraordinary! The costumes, make-up, music and stage and special effects - the way the dancers came into the aisles and interacted with the audience was so much fun and beautiful and outstanding! And the final performance of Memory made me cry it was so breathtaking! If TS Eliot were alive to see what was done with his work, I believe he would be thrilled. The sheer power of the metaphors between the lives and personalities of cats reflect all that is human, all of our art and the dancers are truly as graceful as real cats. I highly recommend it to all and would gladly go see it again and again and again. Thank you to cast and crew of Cats as performed on 24 February 2012 in Edmonton, Alberta! |

Cats in Omaha 2/17/2012, Feb 18, 2012

| Cats at Omaha last night. I gave 4 stars. Took away one star for the person running the sound board. The instrumentals were completely blowing away the vocals during the entire show. You would expect that for a rock band, but not a Broadway show. Kudos to the gal in the white cat costume. Front and center in most dance routines and for a reason. Great dance and didn't let up even when shuffled to the back on a routine. People in Nebraska notice when someone gives 100% for the entire show. |

Performance Great...Sound sytems in the Orpheum was horribe, Feb 17, 2012
|
reviewer: Anonymous from Omaha
|
| The sound system sure needs to be replaced. I'm surprised that the Orpheum can even attract good tours. You couldn't understand the words being sung by half of the singers. Great voices though and great dancing. Too bad the performance was darkened a bit by a lousy sound system. During the chourses sounded as if it was played from a dirty CD. |

Mediocre at best, Jan 21, 2012
|
reviewer: AA from Irvine, CA
|
| I have seen several musicals in the past, and was looking forward to CATS one of the longest running and well known shows- but I was sadly disappointed.
Maybe a Broadway musical like this one isn't meant for a smaller stage like Segerstrom Hall, where the sound system is no where near strong as on Broadway. In a musical the music is supposed to move you-well, it won't here- Also, there is no particular plot, and the choreography wasn't very impressive- I left before the show was over :( |

Much anticipated...very disappointed, Feb 19, 2012
|
reviewer: Anonymous from Omaha
|
| I was truly excited to see CATS again! I had seen it several years ago and it was spectacular!! I bought tickets for my entire family (great seats) only to be highly disappointed. The vocals were drowned out by the music making it virtually impossible to understand the words being sung or to get any meaning from the different scenes. The choreography/dancing (some not for kid's eyes)were also lacking. Transitions from act to act were poorly orchestrated going from what seemed to be a happy scene to sudden darkness and an eary scene with no real plot. The costumes which are a major part of theater as well left a lot to be desired. They fell short of anything spectacular if even mediocre (Leotards with marker lines would be a good description-High school performances with hand-made costumes have looked better.) There were a few acts that were outstanding and very moving, well worth an applause, but for the most part, any clapping that occurred was minimal or forced on most occassions |
