Great Lakes Theater Company open their new season with a production of the classic My Fair Lady. Inspired by George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion, this musical comedy follows the fortunes of a professor Henry Higgins and lowly East End flower girl Eliza Doolittle. Higgins, a student of phonetics and a firm believer in the power of correct pronunciation, bets the cockney Doolittle that in six months time he can have her speaking properly. Little does Higgins know that their lessons together will change him just as much as it does her!
Lerner and Loewe's utterly charming work originally debuted on Broadway in 1957 to huge acclaim, picking up six Tony Awards. Its status was cemented by the Audrey Hepburn-starring film eight years later. Among the show's countless classic songs are 'I Could Have Danced All Night', 'The Rain in Spain', 'On the Street Where You Live' and 'Get Me To The Church On Time'.
