Why see The Fantasticks?
the hanna welcomes the world's longest-running musical
The world's longest musical is given the Great Lakes Theater treatment for the 2015/6 season! When two fathers try to pair up their respective children in a love match by pretending to be in a Romeo/Juliet-style feud, their actions take them on a journey of lost love, reminiscence and redemption. It's original off-Broadway production was the world's longest-running musical, running a total of 42 years and 17,162 performances before closing in 2002.
WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Based loosely on the original French novel The Romancers by Edmond Rostand, two neighboring fathers fool their children, Luisa and Matt, into falling in love by staging a mock abduction, so that Matt could come to her rescue and end the fake feud. When the two lovebirds uncover their fathers' deception, they are both angry and humilated, and reject each other as a result. As each attempts to find their way in the world, they both come to a sudden realisation; their love was true after all.
