Written whilst recuperating on doctor's orders at the serene surroundings of his Austrian country house after a near-death experience, Mahler's Fifth Symphony has a gorgeous emotional scope as it takes us on a journey that touches on drama, beauty, mourning, and eventual triumph as detailed in its fantastic climax.
